Hitch your Wagon to Sorrow

I get into class one fine morning, late as usual, and the Prof gives a warm smile. My mates pat me on the back and let me sit in my favourite seat at the back. The class was so interesting that day I got bleeding on my left elbow after pinching it the whole time to check whether all this was real. Lunch that particular day was heaven! The Hindiwallah serving vada gave me a conjoined vada(the result of a combination of sticky vanaspati and surplus flour), the most desirable food item in our mess. I looked at my friend's plate wherefrom a small mound of flour took a sneak-peak at my "Mega Vada" and resigned to its fate. I then had a lovely siesta in my room before hurrying back to the afternoon practical session<10 minutes late>. Imagine my horror on seeing the HoD inside on one of his belly-upfront rounds. I sneaked in without getting caught..! Yet again they had this DNA extraction experiments, one of the only things that make me feel I am a student of the life sciences. And well, that went off well too, too good to be true infact, supplemented by that 'A' I got for my observation.
A day like this would be a dream come true in an engineering student's life. A day full of positive vibes even though my actions deserved worse. Hell.. going in late for class twice(bypassing the Head in the process) and still managing to get an attendance tick, getting a mega vada for lunch, a good siesta and finally an A in the practicals would call for PARTY TIME in the evening..!! What if I were marked absent, got chucked out of Practical class and worst of all, what if that small mound of floor had been on my plate.. taking a peak at my friend's mega vada..??  Would I have been grinning ear-to-ear by 4 pm?
Nope, I would have been a spent angry young man. I would have become the yesteryear Amitabh Bachchan. And by I, I actually mean 'you', the reader. I implore you, look within yourselves, are you not craving for positive things to happen each day? As a young kid, didn't you want that kaalaan fry-shop outside school to be open everyday? As a teenager, didn't you want your parents to let you go on  sleepovers every month?  As a young man or woman, didn't you want to be the college rockstar? If such positive vibes are not around us, we tend to go into a shell, and lock ourselves away from this hip and happenin planet of ours. We have all been brought up in bubbles of joy and happiness that we know not to handle stress and misfortune. We have been cooped up in shelters of love and care that we, sometimes, fail to understand pain and separation.  Optimism is fine, as long as you don't go over-the-top.

People always talk about channelising your positive energy into something productive. Aw shucks.. why not try out that negative energy? That bad nonsensical irritating feeling you get when something bad happens to you.. do not fret over it or worse, sleep through it. Try to channelise all those negative vibes into something that will make you proud, instead of doing something rash. I know I am being radical but then, once you experience the joy of having accomplished something with pure uninhibited negative energy, you will learn to first like it, then grow into it or rather become what I call a "pessimistic optimist". And then, we would all become a fusion of positive vibes enriched by a core of negative energy. Yeah yeah.. visualise the glowing eye of a cyclone ;-)

When you think of negative energy think Arvind Kejriwal. Think Arab Spring. Think Jaiprakash Narayan. Think the Indian Independence Movement. All of these phenomena were born out of steaming hot negative energy. The fact that they rose like a phoenix(Indian independence, Jaiprakash Narayan) or went down without a huff(Kejri Bhai) is another matter altogether. The fact is they all tasted success. It's simply a matter of unlocking that latent potential in all of us.
After the unlocking has been done comes the hard part-the channelization. And here I come to the "world is a better place" part.
But by making someone else's day, you can fix a whole week. Life is short and art is long. Life may bombard you with obstacles, learn to dodge them and the very next minute, INDULGE. Indulge in a hobby, in work, play or best of all, charity. Got a big history of arrears? Start reading trivia and indulge in quizzing. Your love left you? Adopt a child.. you will stay happy for life. Boss fired you? Start your own company instead of burning his effigy.
I may go on quoting and unquoting but then,as they say, "you may only use quotes where there is nothing for you to say, where the available intellectual stuff in your head cannot truly itself explain to the target."
And so, dear reader, hitch your wagon to sorrow, and when that negative energy gets saturated, rev it up and move forward, you shall go far.
